Capricorn The Sea-Goat
December 22 – January 19
Born to climb. Born to build. Born to make something lasting from what the mountain offers.
A cardinal earth sign, ruled by Saturn.
The Sun moves through Capricorn from approximately December 22 to January 19. The season of Yule, the winter solstice. The longest night. The world at its most still, the light at its most fragile, and yet the Oak King is born. The return begins. Capricorn holds that paradox: the darkest moment is also the turning. The one who climbs knows that the summit is reached one step at a time, in the cold, in the dark, without applause.
In ancient Sumer, Capricorn was the god Enki, lord of wisdom and the deep waters, depicted as a goat-fish, the creature that moves between the mountain and the sea, between the earthly and the primordial. In ancient Rome, the sea-goat was sacred to Pan, who leapt into the Nile to escape Typhon and became half fish in the water. Capricorn carries that dual nature. The one who is rooted in the earth and yet knows the depths.
Ruling Planet: Saturn
The great teacher. It governs time, structure, discipline, and the slow accumulation of mastery. In Capricorn, it asks: what are you willing to build, and how long are you willing to build it?
Element: Earth
Prithvi in Sanskrit. Ge in ancient Greek. The grounding element.
It endures. It holds the weight. It knows that what is built slowly is built to last.
Chakra: Root & Crown
Root. The foundation. The deep, patient knowing that comes from being fully grounded in the body and the earth.
Crown. The summit. The understanding that the climb is not only material but spiritual.
Tarot: The Devil (XV)
The figures in The Devil wear their chains loosely. They could remove them at any moment. Pollack reads this card as the shadow of The Lovers, the structures we mistake for fate. For Capricorn, the invitation is to examine what you have built and what has built you.
Frequency: 396 Hz
The Solfeggio frequency of liberation from fear and guilt. For the Capricorn work of releasing the weight of obligation and reclaiming the authority that was always yours.
Capricorn is a cardinal sign, the modality of initiation, of the season's turning. The hinge of winter. The sign that opens the wheel at the solstice and begins the long climb back toward light.
Signature Stones
Stones of Capricorn are typically deep black, dark green, and smoky grey. They carry the grounded, disciplined, enduring frequency of the earth element and the patient, structural wisdom of Saturn.
Black Tourmaline. Protection, grounding, and the energetic foundation that makes the climb possible.
Smoky Quartz. The stone of the long view. It transmutes what is heavy and anchors what is essential.
Garnet. Deep, regenerative vitality. The stone of the one who keeps going when the summit is not yet visible.
Malachite. Transformation through structure. The stone that reveals the pattern beneath the surface and asks what needs to change.
You know how to carry weight. You know how to wait. What you build with your hands and your patience is real. It will last.
